Paraty is situated on the BR-101 coastal road just east of the boundary between the states of Rio and São Paulo.
We are 253 kms (157 miles) from Rio de Janeiro and 309 kms (192 miles) from São Paulo. Both journeys are picturesque, the one from São Paulo rather more so (and with better quality roads).
Journey times by car are around 4 hours from Rio and 4½ from São Paulo (more with weekend or public holiday traffic).
Arriving on the BR-101 coastal road, turn into Paraty and onto the Avenida Roberto Silveira. This is the main street through the new part of town. You pass the petrol stations and will then drive along the main shopping boulevard.
At the end you will come to a T-junction with the pedestrianised old town directly ahead of you. Here there is a chain across the road to prevent vehicles entering and so you will need to turn left or right:
From this point there are three main options for parking. Whichever you chose, you will be just a few blocks away from the hotel.
Option 1: Praça da Matriz (Main Square)
Turn left and carry on until you are forced to turn right at the end of the road. Having done so, then continue straight on, passing the bridge over the river on your left and then reaching the large church in the main square, the “Praça da Matriz”. Here you will find a large, supervised (paid) parking area, which is just two blocks from the hotel. This is also a good place to be dropped off if you have arrived by taxi and are unfamiliar with the town.
Option 2: Rua Fresca Rua Fresca
Alternatively continue straight on past the main square (as above) and after 100m the road bends to the right with the bay in front of you. Pass the small white chapel and continue for three blocks to the corner where Rua Samuel Costa meets the road you are on (known by everyone as Rua Fresca, though on most maps it is labelled as Benedito Telmo Coupé). Here there are free parking spaces by the bay, and this is also the closest point to Casa Colonial 12 which is a 100m walk away along Rua Samuel Costa or 120m to Reception/Casa do Simon.
Option 3: Rua Aurora and Santa Rita
When you reach the T-junction at the start of the old town, turn right, and then after 75m take the first left turn (into Rua Aurora). Follow this road until you reach the harbour area, and the Santa Rita church (familiar as the famous 'postcard image' of the town). Along the way you will find parking on the side of the road and all the way up to the entrance to the pier (this area floods during the monthly high tide but our staff will let you know if you need to be worried!).
Do let us know in advance when you expect to arrive in Paraty so that we can be ready to welcome you.
If you call us once you have arrived at your parking location (or other transportation option) we will come to meet you and carry your luggage to the hotel.
